Ice golf in Galtür, Tyrol – golf in winter

Enthusiastic golfers know no obstacles. Not even snow and ice: playing golf in freezing conditions is the ultimate challenge you have to face in winter. It’s known as ice golf, and in this game you don’t call it a green, it’s a white. Ice golfers play the frosty courses in thermal snowsuits and moonboots, with fluorescent golfballs to make them easier to find after hitting. Apart from that, everything’s as you would expect: the time-honoured rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews also apply in the snow. This winter, ice golfers will be teeing off in five countries.
After the first competition at the Silvretta Galtür Golf Club in Autumn 2002 (X Golf Tournament), an ice golf tournament was held on 12.02.2003 at the Silvretta reservoir, Bielerhöhe (at an altitude of 2240 m).
