Bavarian curling

Bavarian curling / Olympic curling

As one of the oldest and most simple ice sports ever, Bavarian curling is an ideal opportunity to relax in a social atmosphere. What began as shooting in the wild is now on its way to becoming accepted as an Olympic sport.

Curling became a people’s sport in Austria and Bavaria in particular. When the lakes freeze over during the winter, hobby sportsmen send their bossel sticks whizzing down towards the puck. Depending on the season, the game can be played on natural ice, frozen lakes or artificial ice indoors.

Two teams compete against each other. The lanes are marked out on the ice and the target puck is put in position. Next, the player throws the bossel, following through with his arm and taking a step forward for balance. With the right knack, the bossel will then land on or near the puck.

But even if the bossel lands in the right place, victory is not a foregone conclusion. Any subsequent player can displace your bossel stick or even the puck, to put himself or another competitor into a better position. It’s a real game of ludo on ice. It’s most entertaining when you throw out your opponent just before he wins the sweep, as it’s called.
