Mountain Biking Tyrol

Mountain biking in Galtür/Ischgl, Tyrol

It’s the Silvretta Ski Arena in the winter, and in summer it’s the unique Silvretta Mountain Bike Arena.

For the benefit of mountain bike freaks, Ischgl offers a mountain bike facility covering over 150 km, with an altitude range of 1366 m – 2850 m and featuring 16 routes between 5 and 54.5 km long. The routes, which all use existing mountain and forest tracks, are equally suitable for downhill and cross-country riders. To find out more precise information, a guide has been published in English as well as German, which is available from the Ischgl tourist office subject to a deposit. The 64-page brochure includes a behaviour code that every mountain biker must follow, as well as an exact description of the routes offered in the Mountain Bike Arena (altitude details, area maps, route description etc.).

Mountain bike guides with experience of mountains and bikes are available to accompany fans on these tours. In summer, bikers can also put their skills to the test on the dirt track – a specially created MTB and BMX track, or even try out a bike for the first time before venturing into the Silvretta Mountain Bike Arena. Bike Polo is absolute undiluted fun – it’s polo without horses on our own polo pitch. Bikes can be hired and maintained at local sports shops, of which there is a wide range.

Every year the absolute summer highlight is the Ischgl Ironbike contest, which is already widely known. It’s a 42 km marathon running from Ischgl - Samnaun – Ischgl, which incorporates a total altitude difference of 2500 metres.

Pure downhill racers can strut their stuff in Ischgl too, as there are plenty of downhill routes.

The transport infrastructure available to bikers in the summer in Ischgl is unique – there is a draglift, gondola lift and chairlift.

The new Single Trail Eldorado was designed by bike superstar Hans Rey! His job is to check the many existing trails, assist with developing them into easily navigable routes, and plan new connections and panoramic routes. Because of this work, Ischgl will be in a position to offer mountain bikers a unique network of single trails in future years.
